There are some tips to remember when shopping for auto parts that will not only be good to your wallet, but also great to your car.

First, when shopping for auto parts, keep a copy of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on hand. This ensures that you get the parts that are made specifically for your vehicle as any auto parts store will be able to look up your vehicle directly from this information.

Next, when you are looking for replacement parts, it is always smarter to go with parts that your dealership uses, not only will they be honored by a warranty, but you will also rest assured that you are using the best type of part for your particular make and model.

Finally, in order to keep auto repair costs down, make it a habit to do certain tasks regularly. For instance, visually check your brakes every six months and regularly replace spark plugs. Also, replace windshield wipers every three to six months and rotate your tires every six thousand miles. This will keep you on the road and out of the auto repair store.
